Windows Phone 7 – Finally Released
So back in March of this year there were a few posts floating around lauding the benefits of the Windows Phone 7. The apparent iPhone killer…right.
In today’s news: Android phones. Nonetheless, here are some thoughts on the Windows Phone 7.
The phone is now prepped and ready to go on the shelves in North America as of today. What’s interesting is how excited some people were about its release eight months ago, and how things have changed. Expectations for good quality apps were high, yet the phone is being released with a paltry 1,000 apps available (compared to 100,000 and 300,000 for Android and Apple respectively).
The large screen was also, at the time, a major feature, but Android phones, the iPad, and countless other products have now made the screen seem somewhat dated.
Here’s something that really boggles my mind; no cut-and-paste feature on the phone! Really? I love the fact that they at least tried to be different by using tiles to navigate, but leaving out a point of parity like cut-and-paste is ridiculous to me. This, in my eyes, is a major blunder that was touched upon in a CBC review.
All in all, it seems as though Microsoft really missed the a key point that I’ve learned here at school…get outside your building and explore. Learn who your customers are and work with them to build a product they’d be willing to pay for. Seems as though Microsoft really missed the boat here.
