Presenting…The Flyrad!!!
Looking for an original way to get around the city? Tired of stuffy bus rides to school and want to enjoy the fresh air? Considering a fixed gear but don’t want to commit to glasses with no prescription and jeans fit for a fourteen year old? Well thankfully, you now have another option to add to the mix that’s not a recumbent bicycle! I found it on the website inhabitat and it’s called the FlyRad. Yes that’s right, the FlyRad.
What is it? I’m not really sure to be honest. Basically it’s a motor with a single wheel that you can either have pull you, or you can sit on it. However, you’re going to have to wipe the dust off your rollerblades, if you have a pair, because they’re a must. That’s what I can gather from the article. I do know is that it’s environmentally friendly, running on a 36v battery, and is definitely innovative. However, as I currently write this piece, the feedback I’m getting from my classmates and friends is generally “What is that” or “What are you supposed to do with that thing?” To me, this looks like another segway, destined for failure. Where are you supposed to be driving/getting pulled by this thing? Does the inventor expect you to hit the streets, hold on for dear life, and pray that a fixed gear bike rider with no brakes doesn’t hit you? On the sidewalk perhaps? Bobbing and weaving as you avoid strollers, texters, and those starting their weekend early on a Thursday afternoon?
While wild and crazy ideas are where disruptive concepts are generally born, I think this one has yet to get out of the wild and crazy department.
I’m curious if anyone who may have read this would consider purchasing something like this.
