Definitions

The definitions assignment showed the importance of understanding an audience’s needs. Providing definitions in documents can be crucial for audience understanding if the information is technical. The assignment includes three different types of definitions with varying levels of detail. This document defines what a polymer is and its potential uses. This assignment taught me how to effectively communicate technical details to someone.

Formal Report Proposal

The objective of this assignment was to find a topic for the formal report and plan out the structure and content of said report. The topic I chose pertained to the use of disposable nitrile gloves in the Chemistry department and how to reduce their use and generated waste. The document highlights the topic, scope, and methods for the formal report. This assignment taught me good planning and organizational skills.

Letter of Complaint

This assignment was meant give students a chance to write using “You” attitude in a formal business letter about a complaint they had with a service or item they purchased. My letter was directed to a food establishment on UBC campus, the Grand Noodle Emporium, for poor food quality. This assignment helped improve my formal letter writing, and taught me writing with a polite tone while staying strong with my requests.

Peer Review of LinkedIn Profile

This assignment was one of multiple peer review assignments throughout the course. In particular, I peer reviewed a colleague’s LinkedIn profile, which was one of the major projects for the course. I evaluated the profile based on the organization, profile picture, content, summary, and offered advice and critiques of these different aspects. These peer reviews really helped with improving my proofreading and editing, and also helped improve my communication within documents.
