Philosophy

 

Encourage questioning, and creativity, in an inclusive and comfortable classroom community, to enhance, confidence and self-regulation. 

My philosophy starts and ends with community. The creation of a community is what allows me to promote self-regulation and build confidence. If a student feels welcomed in the classroom, and considers him or herself a member of the community, he or she is bound to grow, build confidence and thus gain skills to regulate their own learning.

My definition of a classroom community is one where there are routines that students and teachers follow. It consists of students working together and collaborating, in addition to teacher collaboration. It consists of kindness and compassion, both by the teacher and students. A classroom community welcomes all races, cultures, languages and needs. It fosters learning and displays encouragement.

When a classroom community is established, we then can see self-regulation and confidence take place.

My Goals: 

Teaching is not simply lecturing information from textbooks. It is the art of educating and scaffolding from past learning experiences to influence and help individuals find their potential and follow their passion. My goals as an educator are to establish an emotionally safe environment, inspire and encourage and self-regulate students and use inclusive teaching methods.

An emotionally safe place is one where students can share their feelings, opinions and participate in discussions without the fear of rejection or judgment. This is an important aspect of the classroom, and is one that can establish a strong teacher student, as well as student to student relationships.

My second goal as an educator is to provide inspiration for the next generation. This inspiration does not have to only be in the subject area that I teach, rather in any aspect that the students wish to pursue. Whether it is providing support for their artistic talent, intellectual ability, or athleticism, my main goal is to allow students to find their passion. The value of an inspirational teacher can be particularly important in shaping students future success.

Lastly, my third goal is to create an inclusive setting within my classroom. Being a socially just teacher and aware of the diversity, such as culture, learning styles and languages, in a classroom is  important. This awareness makes me one step closer to creating a safe space as well as an inclusive one in my classroom.

In the near future, I plan on further developing and setting new goals as I spend years teaching individuals on the path of a “continuos learning journey”.
