Reasons for Being a Teacher:

An educator has a huge influence on the life of their students. My first influence was my grade four teacher. Her enthusiasm and passion, made me, an ELL student, excited about wanting  to share my knowledge with students one day. Later in life I was influenced by my Chemistry 11 teacher. In my Chemistry 11 class, I knew that I enjoyed science, especially chemistry. I followed that passion in post secondary studies. As life got busy with labs and courses, I lost sight of being a teacher, and became focused on science. A friendly reminder was given to me while I took two special education courses at UBC during my final year of my undergraduate degree. Having the privilege of sitting in these courses, taught by a teacher, I was reminded of the grade four dream that I had. From then, I took the step into applying and completing the BEd program at UBC. Till this day, I think I have made the best, most noble choice, and am privileged to go into a classroom and teach, but also learn along side of my students.

This is why I call this a “Continuous Learning Journey”.
