Hey guys, so here’s a Bud Light commercial I found on Youtube:
The first few words that came to my mind after watching this were funny and witty. After a more careful analysis of this commercial, however, I’ve noticed that Bud Light wasn’t really directly promoting its product since it was only mentioned once at the beginning. Instead the commercial was similar to many other current airing commercials in the respect that it indirectly promoted its product by using humor.
Humor has become a very important tool for marketers. Perhaps marketers have realized that entertaining the consumer while leaving a small after thought of their product in their minds is more effective than actively trying to sell their product to the consumer. Humor leads to laughter, which is associated with happiness. Consumers that are happy are probably more inclined to buy things than when they are in a bad mood. A good ad is one that associates the product with a positive emotion. This way customers would believe that buying that product will make them happy
Going back to the Bud Light commercial, I feel that it definitely does a good job of associating it’s product with positive emotions. Sometimes I like to think of random things to entertain myself, so if you hear someone randomly laughing in marketing, it’s probably me thinking of this commercial. 🙂
