Blog #5

I have read Ben Wise’s blog about “How do you customers shop?”, posted on CMA. Author indicate that everyone has its own shopping style, and a shop can not satisfy all customers’ needs. Therefore, Author has come up with some ideas for shops.

I certainly agree with the first one that shops should provide multiple paths of discovering products while shopping. Customers definitely do not want wast their time to look through the products which they are not interested. Shops should also determine the most important customer groups. Shop should be customized to pleased its customers in high loyalty. And then try to make the shop creative and comfortable in order to grap another potential customer groups.

For many shops, especially restaurant, I strongly suggest that they should have their own parking lot and it is better if it is free for its own customers. From my own and many of my friends’ experiences, We will not go to a place to shop often if it is hard to find a parking space at there. Many of the restaurants in Downtown Vancouver are very delicious, but I am sure that people will go more often if they provide free parking lots for customers.

Last but not the least, I think “Create personas” and “Train staff for flexibility” are applied to those shops, such as car shops, computer shops, and etc. Because regular customers usually do not know much about those high technology product, therefore a professional and efficient sales person is needed for explanation and introduction.

In a nutshell, there is not only one simple way can applied for all kinds of shops, different shops have to create their unique way to customer the shops in order to keep their customers pleasant.

After reading Alison Miller’s Blog (https://blogs.ubc.ca/alisonmiller/), Branding: Logos and Luxury, I do not really agree her opinion that designer handbags without a logo pattern are experiencing an increase of production and sales.

I am from a middle-class family, and i will buy some luxury products occasionally. The whole point of buying luxury product is to distinguish your unique status from other peoples’. Handbags without a logo are not what luxury consumers want. The picture of the Hermès Birkin bag in Alison’s blog is the most classic bag of Hermès. It’s been out for a enough time that every people knows the brand of the bag is Hermès just by looking. People can recognize it without the logo. The bag also has many unique characteristics for people to recognize it. Because Hermès has been out since long time ago and has its successful logo already, so designers can just put a small logo on zippers as long as people know the bag is Hermès.

Many luxury consumers are quiet and low-keyed because they do not want show off their wealth to others, they want to purchase handbags with a small logo and only a certain group people can recognize them. Every luxury handbags must have a small logo somewhere  within the bag, and the small logo can satisfied both luxury consumers’ needs, low-keyed and distinguishability.

Undoubtedly advertising is the most critical factor in marketing. Coca-Cola, a extremely successful company, will not be successful without its advertisements.

One of my classmates’ blogs, Billy Lam’s Blog(https://blogs.ubc.ca/billylam/), also wrote about Coca-Cola. As he said in his blog, the target of Coca-Cola is mainly towards young adult, so Coca-Cola’s advertisement is very sporty and energetic. Young adult is more care about the taste and feeling about the good they will purchase, and less care the downside of the good. As everyone knows, there are many sugars in a can of coke, which is very unhealthy. However, young adults can not feel that unhealthy issue immediately after drinking coke, what they feel is energetic and excited,  and this is exactly what young adults want. In particular, Coke has dominated the sports market. Coke is the official sponsor for many huge sports event, such as Olympic games, World Cup, and etc. These games are hugely popular and watched by billions fans across the world. The object for Coca-Cola’s advertisements is that the company wants people once hear its brand can immediately  relate its product to sport and things people like, instead of unhealthy issue. And Coca-Cola has reached this goal by its many creative advertisements.

Blog #2 – Renren

When I first had a Renren account, I was surprised at how similar to Facebook Renren is. Renren, is formally known as Xiaonei Network, has been called commonly Facebook of China. It founded at the year end of 2005 and already had 31 million active monthly users. What makes Renren so popular in China in this short period of time?

One of the reasons is that Facebook is banned by Chinese government. Renren is really a clone of Facebook, therefore, Facebook users in China can easily find a substitution of Facebook now. In addition, Chinese users are more prefer using Facebook in Chinese which is their own language than in English. Because Renren is a social networking tool, as a product, Renren can be well known simply by telling friends around yourself. Advertisement is not necessary for this kind of products. Since China has a such large of population. If Renren can fulfill people’s satisfaction, it will have a large amount of users very quickly.

Renren also make itself part of people’s life now. People are likely to upload their photos on Renren and check out what friends are doing. Renren is a great tool of getting information of friend’s daily life.

One of my favorite advertisement is by a chips brand in Japan, called Calbee Foods Co. This advertisement has been released in Hongkong during 1990’s. One of the reasons that I like the advertisement is that I really like the Calbee chips. I almost watched it every night when I was young. Its snacks are hugely popular in Asia, and are well known in the States.

The Greatest lesson i Ever Learned

The greatest lesson i ever learned was from Kobe Bryant who is a NBA super star playing in the Los angle Lakers.  He has influenced me a lot because of his attitude.  He is very active and he works harder than everyone else in the league which made him the best player in NBA, and he has wrote his name on the NBA history book which he has scored 81 points the second most points in one basketball game.  He is also very helpful to his teamates, which he always share his experience and knowledge of basketball with them, to make them a better basketball player.  Lastly, even though he has great achievements in basketball, he is still quietly working hard to improve himself, in addition, he also gives a lot back to the community to help other poor people.  Therefore, his attitude has influenced me a lot, and i still have a lot to be learned from him.

Hello Drug Smugglers!

Fake Drugs has been an issue for many countries, especially poor countries, for a long period of time. Some governments do not take the issue importantly and think it is trivial. The amount of smugglers of counterfeit medicines is rising because of the lax enforcement and light punishment from the government. The fake products are not only from the smugglers but also from some big companies. Many people may have heard the case of Sanlu milk powder in China. The babies is sickened by Sanlu milk powder, even is killed.

It is not ethical for even thinking of delivering or producing such poison productions. Companies should come up with some ideas, such as, a special code onto packages, which can help consumers to indentify if it is genuine or a fake. Moreover, the governments should stand out and declare some serious punishments for doing such unethical things. The citizens pay the taxes to the government for assurance of our own safety. It is time for the governments to pay back.
