Task 6: An Emoji Story

Below is an emoji story. Along with a reflection for the assignment, I’ve included an Answer Key for the story.

House Hunters International (April 2, 2022). Season 128, Episode 1. Canada vs Cerritos Vacation Home on the Map. HGTV. Retrieved from https://www.bajabeachpad.com/video/v/househunters

Reflection:

Q: Did you rely more on syllables, words, ideas, or a combination of all of them?

I relied mainly on words to represent the main nouns I used (i.e. a house represented a house). I also needed to use emojis that could represent ideas (i.e. an arrow to represent hunter). I did not use syllables.

Q: Did you start with the title? Why? Why not?

Yes, I started with the title. I considered a title I thought could be relatively easy to decipher. Also, I chose a TV show that is familiar to many people. I wanted a reader to hopefully figure out the title without too much trouble which could make it easier to understand the plot. The format of House Hunters International episodes are quite similar, so I felt that would also help with deciphering.

Q: Did you choose the work based on how easy it would be to visualize?

Yes. I did consider what emojis could be placed into a typical script for the show. I watched a specific episode and followed some of its premise (i.e. a couple with 2 children from Canada who wanted to leave the cold climate, so they chose Mexico). There were some sections of the episode that I didn’t feel I could tell properly explain, so I chose to leave certain details out of the plot (i.e. the family visiting a zoo and going to a go-cart track). I didn’t want to confuse the story with too many details.

Here is the Answer Key:
