Unit One Reflection
Original Writing
When I wrote the original three definition assignment, I learned the importance of keeping in mind who my target audience is. For example, it was suggested in the textbook that if the specification does not provide the details about the given audience, then I should carter my writing for a general audience who does not share the same level of technical expertise as me. Depending on the term to be defined, appropriately using the expansion strategies introduced in the text me allowed me to help readers to better relate and understand to the term.
Peer Review Process
When i finished the peer reviewing process for the definition assignment, it further solidified my belief that the term to be defined determines which expansion strategy is the most appropriate to use. For example, the term i defined has a historic origin and it helps readers if i provide the motivation of creating such a process to develop software. On the other hand, my partner’s term is more technical, where the historical origin is not as important as its functional purpose. Furthermore, i realized that it is important to connect each expansion strategy in a coherent way so that readers can have a different perspective of the term after reading each section.
Editing Process
During my editing process, i learned that if another term is introduced to compare and contrast with the term that i tried to define, then it is important to provide concrete examples of how they differ. In addition, i realized i should have explained the term in a present day context. Overall, the editing process made me realize that reading my own writing several times will probably have provided a better explanation.
