Landscaper Sandy Chappell had the job of clearing a Richmond property of all the vegetation. Usually, he has access to a variety of machinery, but this time he tried a different approach: Sending his sheep out to graze. Yes, seriously.
While this idea seems strange at first, it’s obviously a very environmentally-friendly solution that works out for everyone. The sheep get free food and the owners get the property cleared. Way better than getting a machine to do it.
Unfortunately, this idea was quickly shot down by the City of Richmond, due to animal control bylaws, and Chappell was asked to move his sheep off the property.
During a time when everyone seems to focus on being “green”, shouldn’t governments be leaping at this kind of opportunity? Well, the city was probably caught a little off guard with the idea of sheep hanging around the city.
Being green is important to Richmond though, so after being given some time to adapt, the city should try and find a way to work together with Chappell in the future. It’s impossible to not see the value in this idea, which Chappell hopes to turn into a new rent-a-sheep business.
