Intro to Me

Hello! My name is Gabriela, but I go by Gabi. In this post I will just briefly provide  my backstory, and I apologize if it is not that thrilling a tale. I am a first year student who has made a great trek from my home city to here, Vancouver. I come from Seattle, WA in the states. It is a magical place that is very similar to Vancouver. My parents are from Puerto Rico, which is in my humble opinion one of the most amazing places in the world.

In conclusion, my life revolves around food, family, espresso, Puerto Rico, politics, and Seattle.

Sincerely,

Me.

Introductions:

My name is Alexandra Rodriguez and I am a third-year Media Studies major. I am particularly interested in the visual arts field, intersectionality, and the creation of spaces for traditionally marginalized voices. I am a second-generation Mexican-American from Southern California. I am deeply interested in both Latinx and Chicano culture, which rely on Mexican and American contexts and narratives, but wish to learn more about the abundant and diverse histories of other Latin American cultures.

Intro

Hi!

My name is Maya Redlinger and I’m a first year at UBC.  I’m in Arts, still totally undecided in terms of major so I’m shopping around with my classes right now.  I’m not Latin American in any way shape or form (many people think I am and come up to me speaking Spanish; I’m really Austrian and Japanese) but in general I enjoy American studies and I think Latin American culture is pretty intriguing!  I’m from San Francisco but Vancouver’s got me kind of hooked.  The goals for 2017 are to get better at bass guitar and learn how to snowboard.

Introductions

Kyra Fay– I grew up on the islands of Indonesia but my mother is Filipina and my father is from the US. Being a third culture kid (TCK) has allowed me to view the world through the many lenses of “cultures” including the culture created within TCKs .  This has lead to my innate curiosity with culture and human relationship to it.

I am one in the sea of many undeclared arts students; but I am leaning towards Visual Anthropology with a minor in Visual Arts. I enjoy photography, music, art, travelling, and existential angst.

I took a gap year last year where in I worked and then travelled to 4 countries in Latin America! My personal experiences in travelling have brought me to the LAST 201 class in UBC to understand Latin  American culture further.

Con mucho gusto.

Introduction

Hello! I’m Rachel.

I’m a first year student at UBC. I’m from Northern Ontario and moved to Vancouver about two years because WOW, Vancouver is so beautiful.

My interest in this course stems from always having loved the Spanish language, loving my Latin American friends and a big ol’ backpacking trip through Costa Rica and Nicaragua last year.

I spend my free time running, skiing, dancing, chillaxing, and occasionally doing homework.

Catch ya on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
