1. Will one of the existing Moodle users spare a few hours to guide Benoit through the setup process of the course on Moodle? The reason why I ask this question is that Moodle is complex to setup at first. I saw IT specialist get confused in preparing Moodle environments. Moodle is mostly setup by Moodle certified professionals. The learning curve is taught
2. It is not easy to estimate, simply because we have no access to the existing course on WebCT and what are the components and their format that needs to be moved to Moodle. Yet I believe from 2 to 3 weeks. It is almost triple the time you require to do it on a Weebly or any easy to use free website building tool. The reason is that Moodle is not easy
Hello Nidal,
Cooperation between colleagues is a great idea and would be a huge time safer. Having never seen or used Moodle I was wondering if you could identify some of the more difficult components in setting up Moodle (or is it just in general more difficult). I know they offer a 4 week Moodle MOOC on how to set up a course, so I can just imagine the learning curve. In spite of this, I have still selected it as my platform in the course, so any heads up I could have would be immensely appreciated. Do you believe that it would take Benoît less time or a similar amount of time to transfer his site to the new Blackboard? Thank you
Should Benoit stay with Blackboard, for the reason that Moodle should be left to the professionals?
Keri
Hi Nidal,
You are correct, it is hard to estimate the development time. There is a lot of information which do don’t have. We don’t know if his training materials from the face-to-face course can be re-purposed. We his existing material require substantial edits? We don’t know if he is relying on a text, as many of the college/university courses base courses on a a fundamental text. We don’t know how many, and what kinds of learning activities are currently in the face-to-face course and if/how they will translate to the online world.
