Welcome to my teacher education inquiry blog. As a UBC teacher candidate, this blog will serve as the place where my inquiry journey will unfold. All comments and opinions are encouraged and valued, come follow my journey!
My Teaching Philosophy
My classroom will act as a safe environment for all students. Students will feel respected and valued, as they are each an equal extent of the classroom community. The scholastic development of each student will be nourished and stimulated with lessons that endeavour to meet each student’s educational needs.
Motivations and Beliefs
As an educator, I am passionate about creating positive learning environments for my students and I strive to be as flexible and inclusive as possible with my teaching practices.
I completed my UBC TEP extended practicum at a Secondary in SD43 where I taught English to grade 9’s and 10’s. I have also recently completed by community field experience (CFE) practicum at Little Flower Academy in Vancouver. Throughout both practicum experiences, I taught students with diverse educational needs and abilities, which has encouraged me to reflect and develop on my professional pedagogy in terms of individual education plans and multi-modal learning techniques. In the classroom and school community I worked to make strong and meaningful connections with my students so that I could better understand their learning needs. I then focussed on maximizing each students potential through multiple modes of communication, learning techniques, content modifications and adaptations.
My paramount quality as a teacher is my ability to build trustworthy and caring relationships within my classroom, encouraging acceptance and engagement among my students. I also believe in the importance of community building and education outside of the classroom. During my practicum I was very involved outside of the classroom, volunteering for drama productions, track and field practices and competitions. Working with the track and field team enabled me to coach students not only in sports but also in general health and wellness, a subject that I am very passionate about.
