As our project progresses from a conceptualizing and planning phase to an execution and action phase, our achievements and objectives have shifted significantly.

WEEKLY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • We have continued our search for community kitchens and made a list of assumed organizations that might have them.
    • So far we have tried contacting churches, cultural services centers, private schools, and senior centers.
  • We have started contacting potential kitchens.
  • We edited the proposal to be more focused and organized.
  • We also edited Blog #1 to be more specific and relate more to our project on community kitchens.
  • We have settled more into group roles.
    • Usually half of us assume a leadership position while the other half follows.

MOMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

What?

Our group has had some challenges collaborating efficiently. Due to very different and busy schedules, our complete group has not been able to meet since the very beginning. This has compromised work distribution and cohesiveness in our assignments.

So what?

Not collaborating efficiently and effectively has encouraged procrastination and caused unequal work distribution amongst our group members. It has also led to our group losing sight of some of the group goals we discussed in our first blog, such as strengthening our communication skills and working together to overcome problems we encounter as a group.

Group collaboration and common purposes are at risk. These are two of the three group values for success proposed in the Social Change Model of Leadership (Komives and Wagner, 2009).

Now what?

Because this project is not easily divided into individual sections, it appears the best way to reincorporate these group values is to meet more in person as a complete group. This will be especially important to analyze the data we collect and to write a cohesive final report.

WEEKLY OBJECTIVES

  • Meet as a complete group if possible
    • Utilize any flexible learning days to meet
    • Try to find a time when all members are free
    • Expand group meeting places to areas convenient for the most group members
  • Find as many more potential community kitchens to contact as we can
    • Expand our search to other types of organizations with potential
    • Try, as individuals, to visit Victoria-Fraserview and personally investigate potential kitchens
  • Complete our next blog in a timely manner
    • Leave enough time (~1 day) for all group members to review and edit it
  • Discuss an alternative plan if our current method of finding and contacting potential kitchens fails.

It is finally time. Fraserview-Victoria community kitchens, here we come!
