Our project encompasses the design and implementation of an digital ethnobotanical database. Team members will research the medicinal and nutritional uses of the plants currently grown in the Aboriginal Garden at the UBC Farm to create an educational and easy-to-use guide to these traditional plants, including photographs for recognition. Details in the database will be geared toward functional application, from foraging or cultivation, harvesting, and processing, to nutrient properties. If time permits, the database might include an online tour of the garden.
By creating this database we hope to make traditional knowledge available to a wide range of people and at the same time ensure that we honour our community partners and the cultures and individuals who are contributing their knowledge.
