Team Members

Jen is a fourth year undergraduate student in the Applied Biology – Food and the Environment program. Her studies focus on agricultural systems and the practical aspects of farming. Upon graduating she plans to apprentice at various farms in BC to apply what she has learned and to learn even more! Her end goal is to own and operate a small scale organic farm.

Laura is a third year student specializing in Nutritional Sciences. She has a degree in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Guelph and plans to combine her experience and her love of travel to work with international nutrition programs. She also works at UBC Go Global, with the Brazilian initiative Science Without Borders/Ciencia sem Fronteiras. She spends her free time enjoying the outdoor adventures so easily accessed in BC: snowboarding, camping, hiking, kayaking and more!

Ava is a fourth year student in Global Resource Systems, specializing in sustainable community development. Her two life plans are to act as a design consultant for new intentional communities, and to run a permaculture bison ranch in northern BC with her partner and their (currently) 3.5-year-old son.

Nathan is a third year student in Applied Animal Biology. He plans to finish his bachelor’s degree and then proceed to veterinary school. He also hopes to one day open his own animal clinic in the lower mainland.

Hayley is a fourth year student in the Global Resource Systems program majoring in global health and nutrition in Africa. Hayley aspires to eventually work in public health in Tanzania. In her spare time, Hayley enjoys hiking, swimming, photography and discussing global issues.

Saki is a third year Global Resource Systems student who most enjoys her First Nations Studies Program courses, and hopes to focus her specialization around Indigenous people’s rights. Her favourite activities include eating and exploring, and hopes to do more of that in the near future.

Zineb is a fourth year in Applied Biology, majoring in Food and Environment. She is focusing mostly on the soil sciences and sustainable agriculture. Her main interests in the field are water management and irrigation management in areas of water scarcity. Zineb likes reading, traveling and keeping detailed travel journals.
