Come mark the 20th anniversary of Gustafson Lake by supporting a warrior who has never stopped fighting for his people. On Sunday, March 22, come by The Capilano Herbal Apothecary for music, teach-ins and a silent auction to raise money to support Secwepemc elder Wolverine and ensure he can continue to grow the food that nourishes the nation.

This open-house style evening will feature music and garden wisdom with Cease Wyss (aka the Indigenous Plant Diva), and teach-ins and performances from other badass resisters.

$10 suggested donation at the door, but no one turned away for lack of funds.

Every dollar from the door, silent auction and bake sale will go directly to Wolverine so he can purchase a small tractor, fencing to keep the bears out of his corn, and upgrade his irrigation system.

Bios of speakers and performers to come

84-year-old Wolverine lives in C’yele near Chase in the interior of BC and farms eight acres of land. Using only traditional methods, he grows tomatoes, beans, squash, carrots, potatoes and melons, all free of GMOs and pesticides. Wolverine gives away most of his harvest to elders in autonomous communities, single-parent families and courageous camps defending their traditional territories against the onslaught of extraction projects.

The Capilano Herbal Apothecary is a new tea house and healing space run by two mother-daughter pairs from the Squamish nation. The four women grow and harvest medicines to make traditional teas. The space opens March 20.

For those of us who are settlers here, we recognize that we benefit directly from the theft and occupation of indigenous lands, and we seek ways to lend support, material and otherwise, to the people leading the struggle against colonization.

We also recognize that there are many ways to contribute meaningfully to community building and food sovereignty, and that cash is only one of them. We welcome contributions of time, skills and services, caregiving, supplies or anything else you would like to offer.
