Digging Deep: A Mining Hackathon | January 26, 2019

Join us for a hackathon at the HiVE in Vancouver on January 26, 2019 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Help us develop a creative solution to solve one of today’s mining challenges and shape Canada’s future as the leading mining nation!

Teck, the Mining Industry Human Resources Council, and the Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan at Natural Resources Canada invite you to participate in the Digging Deep Hackathon: Vancouver Edition!

This is a chance for students to network with industry experts and peers, learn more about the dynamic and exciting minerals sector, and demonstrate their analytical and creative abilities.

The Government of Canada, in partnership with the provinces and territories, is developing the Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan. This generational initiative will lay the foundation for lasting success for the Canadian mining sector both at home and abroad. Your solutions could help influence future actions taken under the Plan.

Teams of four from universities across British Columbia will be presented with a problem and will have one day to generate and pitch a solution to a panel of judges. No technical expertise and knowledge required.

A prize will be awarded to the team that develops the most innovative and tangible solution.

The cost of public transportation to and from the event will be covered by Natural Resources Canada. Food during the event with also be provided.

Please RSVP to Sarah Proulx by Thursday, January 17 if you are interested in participating. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

United Way Student Trainee Engagement Opportunities

Healthy Aging by United Way aims to help seniors stay at home and in their communities for longer by supporting older adults to be socially connected, live healthy lifestyles, and maintain their independence.  United Way’s investments that support universal seniors’ wellness are bolstered by the larger Community-Based Seniors’ Services Sector, which includes municipal governments and non-profit organizations that provide programming to older adults and their families. Together we are paving the way towards an integrated, older adult-centred model of care in B.C.  We are achieving this, in part, through the creation of provincial working groups and communities of practice in areas such as housing, nutritional supports, rural communities, and re-imaging aging.

Some work and meetings will take place at the United Way Provincial Office located in Burnaby, B.C.  However, most work will be performed remotely.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email a cover letter detailing why you are interested and accompanying resume to Bobbi Symes, Program and Operations Coordinator, Healthy Aging, Provincial Initiatives and Government Relations. The deadline to apply is January 14, 2019, but candidates are accepted based on an on-going basis.
