Looking for a summer learning opportunity in Japan? Info Session: November 20 & 21!

The Kyushu summer program included science-related lectures and tours to Kyushu National Museum & Dazifu, Yaskawa & Toto manufacturer, and a visit to research a benthic animal-inhabiting mudflat. Students also attended fun workshops where they made ramen, matcha ice cream, pottery and many other activities, such as attending Yamakasa, a traditional festival in Fukuoka.

Immigration Pathway Information Session with IRCC and BC PNP | November 27, 2018, 4:00-6:00pm

If you are an international student interested in applying for permanent residency, this info session is for you!

You will:

  • learn about federal and provincial immigration pathways to stay in Canada as a permanent resident after graduation
  • hear a detailed overview of how the federal Express Entry system works
  • hear an update on provincial priorities, including the newly-expanded BC PNP Tech Pilot
  • understand the provincial registration system (SIRS) including how the points system relates to invitations to apply
  • speak directly with staff from IRCC and BC PNP in a lengthy Q&A

To maximize the effectiveness of this opportunity, prior to the session, students are strongly encouraged to review:

Volunteer at Fall Preview Day!

Are you an LFS student looking for an opportunity to give back to the LFS Community? Volunteer to be a student leader at Fall Preview Day on Saturday, November 24, 2018!

Fall Preview Day is a recruitment event for the Faculty of Land and Food Systems. It is geared towards prospective high school and transfer students that may be interested in one of our three undergraduate programs. This is a great opportunity to show case what we offer and to get prospective students interested and excited about everything LFS.

Time commitment: 8:30am – 1:00pm
Date: Saturday, November 24
Location: Food, Nutrition & Health Building (FNH)
What the role involves:

  • Assistance with the welcome and check-in of prospective LFS students
  • Leading a small group of students through different stations in a timely manner (that may include presentations and hands-on
    activities)
  • Being available to answer questions from students about your experiences as an LFS student
  • Representing LFS as a proud ambassador of our Faculty!

LFS 496 Internships Applications Now Open!

The LFS 496 Internship applications for January are now open! These internships prepare UBC students professionally and academically for future careers through a mentored learning experience with a real food business or organization.

As well as education and communications postings with the CSFS at UBC Farm, we have an array of opportunities with impact food and farming businesses, such as Fresh Roots, Lita’s Mexican Foods, the Small-Scale Meat Producers Association, Solecito, and Tayybeh, as well as a position supporting the local food system with Vancity. We even have an Insect Food Production Internship with Bite Snacks! (Did you know: crickets are a healthy and sustainable source of protein).

Apply the theory you gain from class through on-the-ground food system-related work and through reflections and course assignments that support your practical learning. These positions are unpaid, for-credit internships.
