Jeff did a great job teaching different types of tacos and main ingredients for a future student’s Taqueria (restaurant) field trip. We worked together on simplifying handouts to fit activities in 10 min. First, he used “My favourite food” handout to built on students’ experience, then he explained an example of a mind map, later he gave students the menu from the restaurant, and finally provided a template of the mind map for the students to complete. Jeff was very engaging in his presentation, he started with his own favourite dish (curry) and made everyone hungry!
He explained handouts clearly, circulated among students clarifying questions, and closed the class asking students to “apply” their knowledge by drawing their favourite tacos in “My favourite food” handout. All students filled in the answers in the mind map correctly and finished the activity on time. One of the constructive feedback I gave Jeff was to spent some time describing the titles of the columns in the mind map to clarify content and to structure time for questions about these columns. In summary, he did a great teaching job, even more considering that… he does not speak Spanish! Way to go!
