Facebook Changes Create Lasting Memories

In the coming weeks, Facebook will launch a completely new website redesign and forever change the way users interact with each other. Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, released that Facebook has already reached 800 million users – all connected in ways we can hardly grasp. Lives will be changed and people won’t even know what hit them.

Many Facebook users do not have the slightest idea what these changes will mean for them, making the mistake of paying more attention to the specific bits and pieces Facebook has to offer rather than the immense benefits and experiences that are produced. Users are already complaining about the redesign and the most infinitesimal of things without truly understanding the implications of this revolutionary change

Dozens of Facebook groups have been set up to protest the changes – some with thousands of members.

People vented ire in an array of online venues including a “Petition against the new Facebook homepage” at the social network and a Twitter stream tagged “#NewFacebook.”

One of the largest changes coming ahead is the Timeline. Facebook is no longer just a social network, but a web of memories dating all the way back to birth. Every single photo, update, app and even locations that users have used are placed on a timeline, changing Facebook into an online scrapbook. In time, users will see that Facebook has unleashed something incredibly extraordinary.

Facebook understands more than just customer needs, wants and demands, but forecasts what users WILL want in the future – a keepsake, a record of existence, and a treasure box of memories . Facebook is more than just a social network of connections now – it has revolutionized into a medium that has value, emotion, and meaning.

COMM 299

Aside from coming out of the course with a better resume and cover letter, I felt that I am much better prepared to tackle future endeavors such as interviews, informational interviews, and approach letters. As an individual driven by passion, I find my motivation and drive from others who inspire me. Each and every COMM 299 class, I was presented with various different success stories that helped me ignite the flame again and again, week after week. Its just such an encouragement to hear about all these different graduates who followed their dreams and succeeded. As well, I am given so many different resources, programs and services that will help me bridge my passions with my future employer. There are so many opportunities out there and its just so reassuring to know that there are ways to approach them!

Passion Passion Passion

Being a first year student in university, I find myself amongst many other freshman, searching for the career path that I will spend the rest of my life pursuing. Its a rather scary thought isn’t it? From this moment on, every decision I make, every course I take and every club I join, I have to think twice – how will does affect my future? My greatest fear is to wake up one day and realize, I have done absolutely nothing with my life and its all the same routine: alarm goes off; I hit the snooze button; I roll around in bed; and eventually rush to get ready for another ho-hum day at school or work. I don’t want to just go through the motions – living my life just for the sake of living.

So whats the foolproof way to avoid this? A mere year ago, I was brought face to face with a quote – although quite simple, but holds so much truth. The woman who presented this quote to me is living proof and inspiration that it works wonders!

“If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you.” — T. Alan Armstrong

We all hear this strange intangible abstract term, but do we ever sit down and grill ourselves – what are we doing with our lives? The dictionary defines passion as “an emotional response to a situation or a person.” Passion is more than a seven lettered word defined by Wikipedia or the Oxford Dictionary, its the burning fire of intense excitement and enthusiasm that drives my very existence; its a soul craving; it moves the world; it shifts the planet; it changes and challenges; its truly and completely me.

So how does this fit in with my life? Its a simple formula really: we must find the balance between our passions and career to fulfill a greater purpose in life – to live a life that is inspiring and influential to those around us. I choose to live my life out each and everyday and let it consume me in a way that is more worthwhile than I can ever imagine – “to become it and let it become you”. Each choice I make, I hope will have a domino effect on my destiny, on individuals in my life and on the world at large. It is a humbling experience to realize that your life could have a strong influence on someone elses life – that “because of you”, great things are happening. This was a lesson learned last year, but its one that’s not simply grasped in a moment of epiphany, but one that will be continued to be learned for many years to come.

So does your soul crave?

Canadian Tire – One Big Happy Family!

Canadian Tire Corp. is making significant changes to the management structure, transforming the once “separate but interrelated businesses” into a “one company, serving one customer”. In the past, decisions were made by five separate departments within their own units. As Canadian Tire strives for a more centralized structure, Stephen Wetmore, CEO and President of Canadian Tire, aims to “allow every customer feel they are dealing with one company rather than a series of loosely integrated business units”.

Canadian Tire’s changes are critical in order to progress as a customer-centered and performance-driven company. Who here has been into Canadian Tire looking for a sales associate, but either have been pointed in the wrong direction or told “this is not my department”? This is a great example of ineffective internal communication, thus, leading to mediocre customer experience. As previously discussed in COMM 101, marketing cannot function in isolation to accounting and vice versa. By melding the five interrelated businesses under one corporate umbrella, effective internal communication and coordination will be fostered between its units, thus, not only improving executive team dynamics, but also customer service and efficiency.
