Social Media with Sumanjit

About

Welcome to my social media blog!

My name is Sumanjit Manhas. I am a MLIS student at the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (SLAIS) at UBC. I just finished my second year. Basically, I am on my way to becoming a librarian!  I believe that knowledge is the foundation for everything and it enables people to do so much more. My previous work in public libraries helped to shape who I am and this path that I am traveling on.

This blog is an assignment for my online course LIBR 559M: Social Media for Information Professionals. As I complete the six modules for this class I will be blogging my views on social media as to what I have learned and think.

My interest for social media started at SLAIS when I also saw my instructor, Dean Giustini’s social media presentation and took his health librarianship course. Otherwise, my use of social media tools has been limited to school related work where I have blogged, created wikis, used GoogleDocs, Flickr etc. I feel that time has always limited my use of such tools.

However, I strongly agree that these tools are essential for information professionals to reach their patrons, for collaboration and information literacy. I’m looking forward to learning more about social media and how it can benefit our libraries. I want to overcome this “time limitation.”

Stay tuned as I explore social media and what it can do for us…
