This week one of the topics in our Comm 101 class was human resources. We talked about how building a good working environment is important and looked at “Zappos “as an example. I found this class really interesting and decided to research which company has the best working environment and happiest employees.
Among the companies with best working environments we can find Google, Twitter, Facebook and Boston Consulting Group. The order in the ranking varies depending on the source but most of these companies are considered to be the best companies to work for by Fortune and Forbes.
Google has been named the best company to work for, for the fourth year in a row by Fortune Magazine. In order to make this ranking Fortune takes into account some factors like work-life balance, health benefits and salaries.
What makes Google so special? The first thing is that different to other companies the working environment is one of the priorities for Google “We try to bring as much analytics and data and science to what we do on the people side as our engineers do on the product side.” said Lazlo Bock who is head of human resources in Google.
Google has created something they call the “living lab” where they test different working environments to try to find what works best for employees, an example of the unique environments Google has created are ski gondolas and pub-like conference rooms in Dublin. Some of the things Google also provides employees is free food and snacks, nap pods, treadmill desks and other things that make it a great living environment.
In my opinion I agree with Gooogle when they say that working environment is really important. If employees are happy its more likely that they will put effort into their work as they have a closer relationship with the company and they want it to do well. It’s also a great way to keep talent, companies are always looking for the best people to come work for their company, if your employees are happy they will be loyal. Employees are also able to have a stress free healthy lifestyle and a better quality of life overall. Finally its a good way in which the company tells their workers that they appreciate their work.
