United Nations is one of the most active organizations and it has played a big role in helping society in the last few years. United Nations is considered by many as an authority, its opinion on world matters reflects the opinion of countries from all around the world. The different projects UN has are funded by all the “member” countries who each contribute to their possibilities.
The type of projects United Nations is working on are in areas like eduction, environment, economy, health, human rights and security just to name a few. Although the United Nations has a lot of financial support it is not enough to develop projects that cover all the problems society is facing at the moment. Even if they had an unlimited amount of money to develop this projects, social enterprise and initiatives like the Arc would still be needed.
In my opinion the type of help social enterprise and the United Nations offers is different. United Nations helps people and countries come out of the “critical stage” , they provide the essentials to make sure countries and people are in a good position. Some of their projects also focus on helping people in the long run but there are so many people that need help that they can not do it all by themselves.
Social enterprise and initiatives like the Arc give people the tools and knowledge to build themselves a better future. Social enterprise gives people who otherwise would not have a job the opportunity to work and be productive as well as contribute to their countries economy as a whole. The Arc does the same by helping people create their own business by teaching them the necessary skills to be successful entrepreneurs. The Arc is also a really good program because UBC students work with entrepreneurs hand by hand to make sure they achieve their goals, its a long term help.
What also makes the Arc different to the help the United Nations offers is that they make communities work together and help each other though the sharing of ideas and knowledge. This makes people more independent as they do not have to rely in an organization like the United Nations, they work with other people who also need help and work together to achieve something better.
