- While examining some GIS data, we must be careful with its coordinate system, and its properties. Some maps are produced using many layers. Some of these layers may have different data produced using different coordinate systems. It’s like unifying measurement: if we do not make sure that each layer has the same measurements, the resulting map will be inaccurate. ArcGIS has a tool that can help us fix the problem easily: the Project and Transformation tool will automatically convert data that contains different coordinate systems into one same coordinate system, and create a new layer of map that has an aligned coordinate system, so that we can produce maps that actually have aligned coordinates and are accurate.
- Remotely sensed Landsat can be really useful when dealing with geographical changes. Traditionally, it is hard to trace the exact changes of one geographic location and keeping other conditions the same, which is desired. However, Landsat scans the earth surface constantly and uniformly. Therefore, we are able to examine the geographical change of a specific location with a uniform time period.
