Hi class,

Today we wrote an in-class paragraph on the theme of “The Lottery” and got a chance to mark our classmate’s writing. Hopefully this exercise will help you become familiar with what I’m looking for in analysis writing and the marking rubric.

Thematic Analysis Paragraph

Thur, Sep 14

Hi class,

Today we talked about the difference between a word’s denotation and its connotation.

I also did a demonstration of how I like to annotate short stories. Attached below is the annotation checklist I made in class, in case you didn’t get it. Remember, sometimes you need to read the story many many times before you notice certain things!

HW:

  • Finish annotating “The Lottery”- Will be doing a HW check on Monday.
