Welcome to my Ancient Egypt Moodle site. This was a challenge, both frustrating and exciting at the same time. As the process evolved into developing my very first Moodle course (still not fully complete), I was excited for what might be in my school in the coming year. I liked how the program allowed for forums, quizzes, splash pages, chats, and more importantly, it had some slickness to it that students in the upper elementary grades would find interesting. That to me is important in getting students to try online learning. There has to be an initial buy in or they’ll be bored with the set up. Of course material and activities will make that feeling disappear quickly.
I felt I met most of the requirements. I had a hard time with the selective/conditional release and like most I’m sure, looked at every Moodle Forum possible to find the answer. I think I copped out and just hid my Module 2 and will have to release it on my own when the students complete their first Forum assignment. Even trying to set up groups was a challenge at first and I had to go back and re-do them a couple of times once I fully understand what the schematic was supposed to look like.
I am looking forward to using this site in my school board’s Moodle server and implementing online learning through the library with a group of Grade 7’s. I think it’s the way to go and using the Library as a way to demonstrate the possibilities of online learning is a great place to start.
