Progress Report

As part of the report writing process, I was also required to write a progress report, complete with survey and interview questions needed for research. There are a lot of ethical issues when conducting primary research, so my questions and surveys had to be approved before I could move forward with my report. Framing the questions in a way that was not too invasive or leading was definitely the most challenging aspect of this assignment. My questions ended up being approved, and the only issue was that my online did not have correct alphanumeric formatting due to UBC blogs not allowing that format.

Subject: Summary of Progress Report

As per Assignment 2.3, please find a summary of my progress report for attracting more customers to The Kings Arms:

Intended Audience:

The report’s intended audience is Toby Bartholomew, the former manager of The Kings Arms and the heir and Managing Director of Wadworth Brewery, who owns The Kings Arms.

Purpose of the report:

Since the Pandemic, The Kings Arms pub has been struggling to attract customers and thus not turning over a significant profit. Other pubs nearby are thriving, so the report will investigate why The Kings Arms is not hosting many customers and what adjustments can be made to be more appealing to people.

Significance of report:

With fewer customers, The Kings Arms is struggling to make a profit, often having to cancel shifts or close early in a pragmatic attempt to save money. Food and beer are not being consumed and are thus going to waste, further adding to profit losses. The report will suggest a way to attract customers, creating more profit for the pub.

Objectives:

The objectives of this report are:

  • To understand why The Kings Arms is struggling to attract customers while nearby pubs are thriving.
  • To make recommendations as to how to attract customers based on findings.
  • To assess the feasibility of my suggestions to alter The Kings Arms.

Methods:
Primary data collected from surveys and interviews of pub customers and The Kings Arms employees. Below are the links to the surveys and interview questions:

Secondary sources will be collected from government records on the area’s demographics.

Research plan:

  • Research customer attendance of pubs through records and observation
  • Interview pub employees to understand the workings of the pub
  • Research the area’s demographics
  • Conduct surveys of The Kings Arms and nearby pubs’ customers
  • Conduct data analysis of investigative findings
  • Compile research findings into graphs and visuals
  • Investigate refurbishment costs and feasibility
