Teaching as a Metaphor

Being a great teacher is to be a great coach. Like coaches, teachers provide structure, knowledge, high standards, and discipline for learning. Coaches use their prior knowledge of sport to develop individual talents. Like a coach, teachers use their prior knowledge to develop skills that are necessary for development of learning. To be a coach means to open the individuals mind to curiosity and new ideas. Similar to a coach, you expect your students to find their talents, skills, and develop at their own pace. Like a coach, teachers work in an environment that is structured towards collaboration and understanding, where teachers work with students to discover their potential.
