Today was an introductory class on our topic of protest poetry.
Students explored some essential questions – what does it mean to protest something? What are some avenues that people use to protest? We shared our ideas on Menti (www.menti.com)
Understood that poetry is one of the avenues used to shed light on an issue, advocate for something, express new ideas on a topic.
We started off by looking at a list of the literary terms we will be exploring during our unit.
We then read through our first poem – Engussi Wedzin Kwah and used the SMILE method of poetry analysis to explore aspects of the poem. The SMILE Method_Engussi Wedzin Kwah
We ended our class by doing a short paragraph response on what topic students would want to protest.
