Lady Gaga – The most unconvential smash hit of this century

by nathanlook ~ September 27th, 2010

When I think of famous women music stars of this century, I imagine either a sexy goddess with a sultry voice or a cute starlet with an amazing voice. That was the standard for which most female singers went by, till Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta came in guns blazing, smashing those images and bringing an image that can be summed up as “I’m going to do as I please and I don’t give a **** about what you think.”

Wait, who’s this Stefani Joanne… whatever? Exactly. Lady Gaga has become  a brand name, and people don’t know Italian-Amercian Stefani, but the pop icon Lady Gaga. When thinking of the brand Lady Gaga, people think of words such as crazy or weird, yet many people think of cool and refreshing. Instead of going with the flow, her new and crazy style is breaking the mold of the typical female music star, and many love her crazy and in your face image. Why is this important? Well, with the Lady Gaga endorsement, that product will be devoured by her rabid fans.

She might not be as “sultry” or as “cute” as her counterparts, but something about her is completely magnetic. From a marketing point of view, she is pure gold.

The Sexy, the Cute... And the Crazy

Guess what? You get to play the Taliban in EA’s new Medal of Honor Game!

The Taliban.. which you get to play as!

In Electronic Art’s new 1st person shooter, people all around the world will have the privilege of playing the Taliban. Even though the game is rated as Mature (meaning only 18+ people can purchase it), many young teens will find a way to obtain this new game. Is this ethically right for EA to release a game that could potentially sway teens and adults to sympathize with the Taliban in order to earn a pretty penny? Clearly, British Defense Secretary Liam Fox does not, stating that “It’s hard to believe any citizen of our country would wish to buy such a thoroughly un-British game. I would urge retailers to … ban this tasteless product.” As well, the sale of Metal of Honor has been banned on U.S. military sites.

So does this new Medal of Honor game actually have no honor? Personally, I think it is fine for EA to release this game. One definition for the word game is: “an amusement or pastime”. Also, there is always a good guy and a bad guy in every war game. This game is just basically synonymous with most other war games out there. And the funny thing is, all this buzz around this game just made EA’s marketing team a whole lot easier.
