Summary: My learning object explores the ways of thinking about the motion of transverse waves as the up and down motion of particles of a medium versus the left to right motion of the wave itself. It covers formulae for the displacement of particles and explains the dependence of wave speed on the properties of the medium. These concepts, along with a couple worked examples, are presented through a PowerPoint.
