The Two Violins: an Analysis of Beat Frequencies and the Interference of Sound Waves

Summary: This learning object is a word problem that analyzes a situation where two violins that are out of tune combine to produce a “beating” frequency. The beat frequency is calculated, and then the principle of superposition is used to calculate the displacement of the resultant wave, which comes from the two sound waves of the violins, at a specific time.

Calculating Lambda for 2D Wave Interferences

Summary: In my LO, i explain how a 2 source wave interference is created and the ripple ring structure it creates. I then explain how we can take that diagram and evaluate the various crest/trough interference and create a fan digram which can be used for calculations. As there are many different ways of using this diagram to calculate various values, i chose to explain how to use the |d(point2)-d(pointi)|= (n-1/2)λ formula to solve for lambda.
