Individual sites

  1. This afternoon I was thinking that it would be interesting to see some of the work done by our classmates, for many reasons.
Foremost, critique is always a good way to provoke thoughtfulness and improvement (for both the critic and recipient, I believe) and seeing eachothers work could also be a good starting point for collaboration or inspiration.
As well, having an understanding of the varied styles of everyone in the class has the potential to promote a deeper, more understanding discussion.
With that in mind I would like to offer up a few of my images on flickr.

    1. Hi Patrick, your images are so poetic that I could feel the power that attracts the viewer’s eye. I can see how you talk to the world and listen to the world with your camera.

    2. Patrick, since we had that conversation today I am going to post my challenge to you. My hope is that others will find it engaging:
Try to create an exploration to the use/possibilities of color in very constrained conditions. For instance:
Create a series of color studies without leaving your room.

      Looking forward to them!

      1. This was an interesting study. During the process of having a coffee I tried to create a set of images where color was a subtle but important element. The constraint was to work within that process, examining only the things encountered in the kitchen and at the table. There are a few arranged shots and some minor editing of color and exposure, but everything is presented close to how it was found.
The difficulty was using color without being distracted by it, which led me to focus on subtle color instead of bold color.

    1. beautiful journeys and beautiful photos!
And as for your second assignment ‘Walk’, I like you named it walk. I can see the trace of your steps and your eyes through your assignment. Compositions, colours, lines, and shapes you found through your camera are pretty strong and confident to me. I’m learning a lot from the class.

  2. Not a ‘photographer’ per se but very much attached to the art of image as a whole. You can view some of my work here – http://newmanproductions.ca

Patrick + Mark – you guys both have some amazing photos there!

Patrick: I really like your more experimental work. You have a good eye for shapes and shadows.
Mark: Those landscapes.. admiring the surf scene you surround yourself with.

    1. Hi Mehdi, I like your Walking project. It is good to see how you approach the process of learning photography seriously. When I’m not sure what to do with a camera to learn what process I should go through to take a better photo(I’m a total beginner), I should tell that looking at each other’s works help me a lot. Thanks everyone!

    1. Hey Adrian
I know you miss the action but you can keep making work and sharing it with us regardless any assignments. We will all enjoy it!

believe it or not, I never had my blog or website, let alone Facebook or twitter. It is very interesting for me to see how open the young generation are about sharing their life in visual language with others. Not like a letter or story, which is in a form of written language, photography contains only one moment of something or someone or someplace without explaining the whole thing especially when these images and their meanings can last forever on the contrary, so I’ve been very afraid of showing the fragment of my thought or life to others through the photography. That has been why I’ve never shared my photos with others unless I wanted to show a particular photo with a particular person with a particular reason. However, I think, when it comes to ART (or an art class), one’s thought or life doesn’t need to be explained as the whole. And unless one wants to enjoy making art and lock it at home only, it is great to show his or her work to others and get their reactions. This is the reason why I don’t mind sharing my poor images with the class for now. And yet I’m not still sure when I’ll have a blog or Facebook to share my life with others, meaning I’m not sure when I can let others see what I’m thinking or how I’m living my life yet.
Maybe photography is for me still a kind of way to keep my personal memory in my photo album or journal that I would leave in my drawer(so old fashioned that your grandma would be better than me ha ha ha).
For you guys, I’m curious what meaning(s) it could be to share your photos(especially photos of your daily life) with others through Facebook or something like that.
And when your photos are shown to others, does this showing make somewhat different about your photos or your life?
Why are people sharing images of their personal daily life even when it isn’t an art exhibition? As I told you in the class last time when we were talking about too many digital images nowadays, I don’t really mind how many images people are producing, but I’ve been always wondering why they want to ‘share’ their images with others when these images have no particular issues or messages.

  4. I just wanted to share my new website, which I’ve been putting together in the final days of the term. The majority of my work is still on flickr, which is something like a photographic notebook, but the website is a bit more polished, more of a portfolio.
