STETSON UNIVERSITY, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES

POSITION:

Stetson University seeks a leader to develop its growing Environmental Science and Studies Department and to participate actively in the creation of a broadly interdisciplinary institute on the environment.  We are looking for an individual with vision and energy to realize this ambitious project.  Stetson University is currently expanding University-wide expertise regarding the environment and sustainability.  This position is full-time and tenure-track at the associate or full professor level, depending on qualifications and experience.  The Department Chair will work with faculty members, administrators, and other stakeholders to build an interdisciplinary program focusing on water issues, including the use, management, ecology, and restoration of water resources.  The discipline of the candidate is open, but specialization in environmental aspects of water systems is strongly preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in an appropriate field, with an active scholarly agenda and demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates in both general and specialized areas of environmental studies.  We seek a teacher-scholar who is engaged in both the theory and practice of environmental studies and sustainability.  Experience in academic leadership is desirable.  Candidates should have interest and experience in community engagement, undergraduate research, and other high-impact educational practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Stetson tenure-track faculty typically teach three unit courses each semester.  This position carries teaching reassignment for department chair duties.  Teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s disciplinary expertise and may include offerings for the University’s requirements in General Education.  For more information on our expectations in teaching and scholarship, our tenure policies, and our support for faculty development, please see the Academic Affairs website:  http://www.stetson.edu/other/faculty/professional-development/index.php

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Environmental Science and Studies is currently being reconfigured and renamed.  Closely affiliated with a nascent institute on the environment, the Department will house the Environmental Science and Studies curricular programs.  Faculty members have a full or partial appointment in the Department, as they participate actively in the interdisciplinary program.
