Employment Opportunity – Research Assistant IRES 2014-5

he UNESCO Chair in Community-based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education and partners have an exciting research opportunity for an MA/MSc student based at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES) at the University of British Columbia commencing July 2014.

This one year position (with possible renewal) is supported by a SSHRC Partnerships Development Grant ‘The Next Generation’, focused on developing training and capacity-building in Community-based Research within the areas of water governance, asset-based development and participatory governance.

The student accepting this position will focus on the theme of water governance and will work closely with Dr. Leila Harris and Dr. Crystal Tremblay,located at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES), in addition to liaising with national and international partners and other graduate students across Canada.

This position will be ideal for an incoming graduate student at UBC with an interest in the following research areas: resource management, water governance, community-based research, and participatory action research.

The minimal requirements include a Bachelors degree and relevant experience inconducting research related to the topics of focus. The successful candidate will have a background in conducting literature reviews, and qualitative/quantitative research skills.

Additional skills desired include experience with social, multi-media and web-basedtechnology, excellent communication skills and multiple language proficiency, although not a necessity. The primary outcome of the work will be a global literature review and bibliography on training tools for Community-based Research in the area of water governance.

The position will support 200 hours for one year at a rate of $24.41 plus benefits, with the bulk of the hours to be completed between July-October. All interested candidatesshould send a full CV and cover letter outlining their experience, qualifications and interest in this position.
