“This position requires traveling to Ottawa for training. Does that work for you?”

I remember Sigrid asking me this question during the final stage of the interview. My response? “Of course! I’ll make it work!” A month after accepting the offer, I found myself sitting on a plane headed to Ottawa. Excitement and anxiety filled me as I embarked on my first solo trip without my 2-year-old by my side.

Essential Skills Curriculum Design

The integration of Essential Skills was central to the program design. A key differentiator of the program was its implementation of the Essential Skills framework to assist training participants in assessing, identifying, and enhancing their skills toward their employment goals. Understanding the significance of this approach, I developed a curriculum and seamlessly integrated the framework throughout the learning process. Here are a few example slides from my workshops.

Essential Skills Portfolio Presentation

As the final assignment of the 3-week training workshops, participants were tasked with creating their Essential Skills portfolio for presentation. This individual project provided our learners with an opportunity to reflect their career journey through the lens of Essential Skills and to showcase their abilities with confidence.

Work Experience Study

After completing my own Essential Skills training, I documented our approach in detail in my work experience study. This report includes formal and informal assessments, the debriefing process, curriculum development, activity design, as well as reflections and insights.
