Don’t Panic!! Team Presentation =)

Hi,

Are you ready for your team presentation? Mine is on March 26th and we are doing RIM. I love presentations generally because I think it is great to share information with the audience. In the meantime, it can practice my shyness of speaking my 2nd language. I am willing to learn. A group presentation is more fun because I like to interact with my group members and help each other out. Our group is doing good from the beginning of the term. Unlike other group I heard, we have no fight, and we listen to everyone’s opinion. We take the role of leader in turns and we set certain deadlines for each other. I am really thankful that I am in this group and I learned a lot from each other.

Despite that, I want to talk about the marketing promotion strategy. Personally, I think advertising is the most important one and it’s what marketing is all about. After I have a closer knowledge for marketing, I pay more attention on usual advertisement and there are some really make me laugh. lol Some companies really use funny commercial to catch people’s eyes. After reading Roy’s blog, I am agree that marketing is everywhere=) https://blogs.ubc.ca/royli/2012/03/13/blog-assignment-3-2/#comment-3

Some thoughts on pricing strategy=)

Hi,

We learned the five Cs (Competition, Customers, Costs, Company Objectives, and Channel members) of pricing, and we talked a bit about the penetration strategy and the skimming strategy in class. I…maybe just bored or sth. I googled pricing strategy and Wikipedia has a good list of different pricing strategy. If you are interested, you can go and take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pricing_strategies

Any movie lovers here? I watched “The Vow” on Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend and we bought the movie  tickets through the machine this time. When I see different prices for different age people, I guess it is the price discrimination strategy which is setting a different price for the same product(movie tickets) in different segments(different ages) to the market.

By the way, “The Vow” is a really nice movie. t is a story based on a real story about a married couple who had an car accident. After his wife woke up, she lost her memory with him, so he tried so hard to help her regain her memory. Very touching and artistic movie.

Here is the trailer if you are interested to watch:

Learn the segmentation strategy!!

Hi everyone,

As we discussed during class, we know that segmentation can be based on geographic, demographic, psychographic and product related. We had interesting examples; we talked about iPhone; we related it to psychographic. Class discussion makes me know the concept so much better, and I actually remember the terms easier by recalling the in-class example.

When I went shopping with my mom to pick up a gift for my aunt’s coming birthday. I searched online that Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation has the colour in 02, but when I went to the actual store, they said they don’t have it in this colour and they offered me a similar one. After I talked with the sales assistant, I know that Chanel has different 6 colour for this foundation for different countries. From that, I recall what we learned in marketing and it is a segmentation strategy based on different demographics. Right!! There won’t be all bright and light skin colours for African countries, and different race people have different skin tones and different skin textures. In order to catch more local customers, Chanel carefully chose the skin colour suits the most of the local people’s skin tones. It is bright!

This is just a simple story, but it makes me think that marketing is everywhere. If I related a lot usual everyday life stories in marketing, there is actual professional way of explain it. I learned not only about segmentation, but it makes me realize I should be more aware of happening around me.

Baby Carrots!

Hi everyone,

Here are two recent commercials of baby carrots on YouTube. YouTube Preview Image YouTube Preview Image

Their commercials are creative and fascinating. Using a hot model is always a good idea for a commercial. Media is a very useful intermediate in a microenvironment to help selling products. Baby carrot’s commercial way of marketing is the most influential one.

After reading the official website of baby carrots and watching their commercial videos, I feel they are really good at commercial. When I enter their official website, a bright, energetic, strong orange colour caught my eye. I know that orange colour is a colour that can improve people’s appetite. It is smart for them to use it as a theme colour for a junk food. Also, orange matched the name, baby carrot which sounds cute and healthy at the same time.

Their design for the official website is new and attractive. Entering their site, they have a iPod shape video with a title of “The World’s First Carrot-Crunch-Powered Video Game” which will definitely catch young game lovers. The second video is a commercial with a sexy model eating the baby carrot. This marketing covering a lot segments in order to get a large range of customers.

I had fun in marketing class and I really like the idea of having a news session in the beginning of each class. I am looking forward to learn more interesting marketing methods and concepts later on.

Marketing!! COMM296-204

Hi,

This is Jinling Rui (Ray), and I am taking marketing this term. Marketing has always been the subject that I am interested in and working on at the same time. I am currently the marketing manager of  Living Springs Financial Group. It is a financial group that involves investment and insurance. I  organize meetings, making marketing strategies and plans based on the research and data collected.

My favourite ad on TV will be the Avril Lavigne Black Star fragrance commercial. First, she is one of my favourite singer. Second, the design of the commercial is just fabulous and mystery. The hot pink theme suits Avril Lavgine because her significant hair highlight is pink. While she is touring around the world, she uses a lot pink commercial products and decoration on stage. This pinky, fashionable, elegant commercial makes people think of Avril Lavigne and her spirit instantly when people use it. I bought one, and the smell is very sweet, fun and girly but cool at the same time. Sorry for such a girly talk, but this commercial is my favourite one so far.

I am very excited to take this course and I hope it will help with the current job I am having.

The Most Influential People In My Life

The most influential people in my life is my father, and I realized I am the happiest person in the world when I am with him. He is not only a business owner, but also song writer, painter, motor cyclist, and so on. He got a lot friends and employees around him as a community. They fight for business, and enjoy all the crazy moments together. However, to me, he is the greatest father in the world. He got the kindness; he got the energy; he caring for the people around. He is the one who made the rules, and he is the one who has enforced them. Of course my mother has also played an important role in my life, but it has always been my dad who I look to for structure.

I still remember the winter that my uncle, who works for my dad’s company, he argued with my dad about the salary. Because that year is not profitable as before, so my dad reduced a bit salary and had a meeting saying hope all the wokers can understand,a nd promised to add wage once the situation got better. My uncle does not listen to my dad, and he was mad becuase he thought that he dedicated a lot to the compant. He crushed my dad’s car by throwing huge stones after arguing with my dad back in the 90s. My dad did not blame him or report to the police. Maybe you think, oh well.. I won’t report too because we are relatives. Listen to me patiently. He broked his arm when knocking on my dad’s car. My dad paid for the hospital fee.

Although my dad is sucessful and rich, he won’t look down to the poor people. He always do charities and he went to poor places and help the children that do not have the money to get educated to go to school. He is also discussing with me about opening a school for all those children that are not luckily enough like we do. I felt deeply for my father’s kindness and I will support him when I am able to. He is caring all the people, the workers, the illness and the olders. I can tell it all in details. Although he is busy, he does not forget to add an air-conditioner for my grandmother. Altho he is busy, he does not forget to call me and ask me how is going. I love the way he is caring people. He is just like a sunshine.

Maybe you think my dad has an old mind or …. not active. No, he is energized and creative than anyone does. He loves surfing, water skiing, motorcycle, and he taught me all that. He loves all the excitement. I still remember the summer that he wakes me up every MORNING and drink tea with me, talking about what we should do in a new day. He is like a life coach, he is like a sunlight to me. Warm<3

Too much things I wanna say. Too much love I need to express, but I have to do the accouting assessment.

I am sorry my dad that I can not write a great blog post. I have a lot to say, I wanna make all the sentences prettier and maybe some grammar check.

I am sorry I should spend more time to write because how gratefull for me to write things about you.

Sorry I should do better. I love you

I really miss you. I know although we are not staying together, our heart and ambition are always stick together. You are always there for me.

Everytime when I feel weak, you empowered me. Thank you for being there for me.

I love you<3

Korean Food Sunday:) 12.Spe.10

Hi everyone,

I m new using UBC blog, and I just wanna say hi. Hope tat we r gonna form a great community in here 🙂

Last Sunday, I went to eat Korean Food in the afternoon around 3-4 pm. I went to Kyung Bok Palace Restaurant in Richmond. My mom suggested that because it has a special offer of all you can eat between 2-5pm. It is only $16.99 instead of the dinner prize $18.99. There is no significant difference except they dont offer lettuce in the afternoon.

Here is the link of many special offers tat resturant offer: http://www.kyungbokpalace.com/

As we can see from its website, it is more official and more business formed resturant.

I really enjoyed the cheaper meal. Moreover, I thought my mom is brilliant to dig all these information. She thinks economically!! I think about the special offer from the Korean Resturant. It is a really good idea to lower the prize a bit for the light period of customoers. It is not only achieving the goal of catching more customers’ eyes, but only a purpose of advertising. These business strategies are all around our daily lives. It is not hard to see in many resturants. The thing is will we really think econimically and go at that period of time? True, economics is everywhere!!
