LiveStrong – Nike

Beginning in 2008, Nike and Lance Armstrong are bringing the LIVESTRONG Collection of workout and running apparel and footwear to retailers nationwide. In an unprecedented move, 100 percent of Nike’s profits from the entire LIVESTRONG collection will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), a foundation that fights cancer.

This is a pretty good marketing method that is adopted by a lot of firms currently. As a sports clothing giant, Nike, a profit organization is smartly taking this action to make profit out of a non-profit campaign. Some people might think profit is money, that i think is not necessarily true because in the long run, a brand like Nike would be focusing more on public relation than their own profit, and that makes long run profit for itself as well as its customers.

Battle between Tencent and 360

Recently a huge marketing war has been raised between two IT giants, Tencent QQand 360, in China. Here are a general guide link of QQ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tencent_QQ and a blog about the background of 360: http://www.china-online-marketing.com/news/china-tech-companies/qihoo-360/

Oct 11th, 360 released China’s first “privacy protection white paper” to account for its recent new software “360 privacy protector”. 4 hours later, Tencent declared in the name of “QQ product team” that 360 was discrediting QQ, and unprecedentedly push the message to its 100 million online QQ users through pop-outs. The fight leads to Tencent prosecuting 360 in form for unfair competition. In turn, 360 released 3 comments on the lawsuit, saying will begin countercharge Tencent for defaming 360 with pornography connection and blocking the downloading page of “360 privacy protector”.

This is the biggest marketing war has happened recent years and it has affected nearly 400 million people in China. I woke up in a morning, i saw everyone’s talking about this news on facebook, and that makes me amazed. What makes me more amazed is everyone was standing beside of 360 since QQ blocked 360 so people won’t be able to use 360 when they were using QQ. However in my point of view, both management teams are super smart, the action that has been taken by QQ is the last step it could take before bankrupt. To know why, please see next blog.

Mastermind JAPAN – luxurious punky

I bet few of you guys heard of this name, Mastermind JAPAN, which is a brand of clothing specializing in high end Japanese streetwear. It is a really young brand that is been established in 1997 by Japanese clothing designer Masaaki Honma. It is majored in designing luxurious puncky clothing. The cloth material that has been used by MMJ(Mastermind Japan) is even better and more expensive than famous extravagant brands such as Dior, Prada and so on. Not like other brands, MMJ keeps low profile as its marketing strategy in order to  maintain its mystery. There was a short wait for the first menswear show which was held in Tokyo’s Harajuku region in 1999. In 2001 Mastermind Japan began to expand to foreign markets. The first expansion was to Paris where the initial foreign trade shows were held. Finally in the year 2006 Mastermind Japan decided to work with Goyard, a notorious bag maker, presenting a grand collection.

Blackberry Playbook!

Blackberry Playbook

This is a commercial video recently posted on blackberry official website. I was excited when I first looked the product, Blackberry Playbook. To be honest, I am a fan of blackberry, so could be a little biased on Blackberry. What I found interesting are not only the product, but also the marketing strategy that Blackberry tried to implement. As we all know Ipad(tablet made by Apple Corp.) has become a extremely hot topic since it was released. The first impression of seeing Playbook is imitation! However the good thing about imitation is to be better. From this commercial we can see the feature they want to convey is being a tablet, Playbook is designed for easy carrying. Also the strong function of Playbook supports its application in anywhere. From what I am seeing right now, Playbook represents the success of blackberry.

Advertisement creates value

From what I think, these two advertisements were used very sucessfully. When I first saw them, I was literally attracted by the idea of this two ads. The first one is a advertisement of 2008 Beijing Olympic, it brought the spirit of the olympic which is teamwork into our eyes. As a common advertisement strategy, staring was also been used in this one. The second advertisement here is created by Cannon Camera. “By using Canon camera, I can picture all the things extremely clearly and save them in my lttle camera.” That what i was thinking when the first time i saw this advertisement. These two ads are designed very well and I believe they created a lot of value for the companies.

Chief Executive at Boeing Quits Under Criticism

Few years ago, there is a news article was saying that the chief executive at the Boeing, the largest aerospace company in the world, summated his resignation due to the gossip of business ethical issue and affect the company a lot, his name is called Philip M. Condit.

Mr. Condit decided to resign just after the company dismissed the chief financial officer who named Michael M. Sears and another senior executive he helped recruit from the Pentagon. The case is that they were dealing with U.S. air force and made a over $20 billion contract and Pentagon found that Mr. Condit stole the documents from the competitor company Lockheed Martin Corporation by using satellite. After the news was released the reputation of Boeing Company is extremely ruined and the stock of the company fell more than 30 percent.

“Our challenge is to straighten out the reputation of the company.” As the former president of Boeing Company, Mr. Stonecipher said. So we can see that business unethical can create huge damage to the company and the people themselves.

When Mr. Condit was first on board, Boeing was clearly outpacing Airbus. But now it is definitely not the situation that it was.
