The start of a life-changing journey

Finally, We have completed the orientation week of this MBA program!!

It was a fun experience, indeed! We had opportunities to get to know our friends, which turns out to have a wide variety of backgrounds. We had people from India to Russia, those who are as young as 24 years old to those in late 30s, with Engineering degree to those from Biology. The meal was good too!

We also gained some insight of what is to come in the months ahead. We heard about how tough the first months are going to be. This really makes some (or many) of us, at least me, quite nervous. Thinking about this makes the fun we had during this seems so surreal. I remember discussing this with some of my friends, how this was like cows who are fed so much so they have a lot of meat when they are slaughtered. The orientation was the feeding part, and having finished the feeding part, we then need to brace for the slaughtering parts..

It is a tough journey indeed. Yes, there will be a lot of assignments to come, but I think this is only a small proportion of the challenge we are facing. Most of us expect a change in life with this program, whether it is career, moving up to higher level, or for those who come from overseas, as a chance to start a life in new land. It is expected from a full-time MBA program, after all. It is required to have a job experience, and this also means you need to leave your job to do this program. And this requires a REALLY strong drive, be it external or internal. So I believe many has this fear, fear of insecurity or uncertainty. Are we going to do well? Is the MBA program going to make a difference? And many of the orientation seemed to resound this fears again.

But that brings me back to the rope course. I was afraid of heights, and I was not very athletic. I thought I might fall, or even worse, did not have a courage to even try. But you know what? I made it! So just like this rope course, the way ahead of us might look scary, but we can do it!

Let’s get started then!!
