Although RCAs have the potential to be good conservation tools, they have not been successful. Thier lack of success could be related to habitat allocation, age, or compliance. Either way, there are ways that you can be proactive about rockfish conservation.
What can you do?
- Get involved in community initiatives working for marine conservation such as Marine Life Sanctuaries Society
- Educate yourself and others about RCA areas when going fishing
- If you are a SCUBA diver participate in rockfish abundance research with the Vancouver Aquarium
- Report and record poachers: 1-800-465-4336
- Learn about the sustainability the seafood you eat!
