Welcome

My name is Simona Rutkauskaite and I am a Geography/North America undergraduate student at Lancaster University (UK) however I am currently completing my second year of study (2015-16) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) as part of a year abroad programme.

This blog serves as a repository for the labs and projects that I have completed as part of a GIS course titled An Introduction to Geographic Information Science (GEOB 270) taken here at UBC. Through the posts published on this site, I hope to detail my experiences through the course of this class and highlight the skills gained.

Course Personal Statement

This course has taught me to appreciate that not everybody is able to work well under pressure to the same degree as I can and thus has highlighted the need to enforce strict deadlines for all tasks in any future group collaborations. The practical opportunities that this course offers are have been the highlight whereby I have been able to employ the theory taught in lectures to real life scenarios. In addition to the development of GIS analysis skills to a level of advanced proficiency, this course has also provided me with an opportunity to gain web design skills as I have had to showcase my work on an online platform in the form of this blog.
