5 Senses, 5 Cognitive Resources-Wenting Yang

5 cognitive resources of our senses what I learn from this course helps me to understand the senses’ characteristics. During the observation from vision, smell, taste, listen, touch, the natural cognitive method inspired me to explore people in different living condition. Especially, five senses study provides me a methodology when I design a public space, I know how to consider about handicapped people and people who are suffering chronic disease.

The digram shows different senses experiences different cognitive resources.

This category study analyses the different type of outdoor lighting, from appearance design, light resources and mount method. At night, the most useful light resources are the mounted light on the brick. The new pattern is designed by the function and essential element of the lighting structure. The new light provides light on the ground and post cap, which helps to install the lamp bulb.

The opportunity is to play with three different food.
The foods are not likely daily food I have. I got these three food from Chinese Grocery, Weekend farmer market and an I Italian pastry shop.
First, I tried three food separately. The flavour is noticeable, but in a few minutes later, I questioned myself if I make them all together, what going to happen?
In the video, you can see the most potent taste will cover the other flavour in my mouth. The light flavour almost can be ignored.

Study of Noise in Lougheed Highway.

Stand on the one of Burnaby Skytrain station located on the Lougheed highway. The traffic is complex, such as cars, trucks and Skytrain. However, in the morning, there are not many passengers and traffic around the Skytrain. The noticeable noise is from leaf blowers. The continuing noise made people want to leave the area as soon as possible. The traffic noise mostly is from the friction of tire and road. Some trucks may have noise from airhorns when drivers make a turn to notice other drivers. However, when drivers start the trucks, the exhaust stack on the front will have whistle noise. There is skateboarder passed me; the uneven concrete ground makes some cracking noise.

Study of Paper Windmill

https://youtu.be/ntLJo-lh81A

I made a windmill by sketch paper. It did not move if I just placed it on the floor. It is because the sketch paper is too heavy for the breeze.
The video shows the wind direction. The windmill did not change the speed from the North and South direction, but the West and East direction has a big difference. The movement of windmill shows the wind is from West direction.

CoffeeHolic Coffee shop- I highlighted the things I felt interested. Interior of the Entire store is made of wood. The sound of making coffee and background music make the space very casual and relax.

The drawing shows the route I walked when I closed my eyes. At this moment, I walked close along the edge of the wall and bookshelf because when I stand in the centre of the room, I felt unsafe and lost my direction. Also, when I touch the furniture, my touch and nose become sensitive. I can felt the texture of surfaces and smell I usually ignore. During this process, I learn how to understand blind people‘s living experience.

One pipe is connected with downstairs from a pizza restaurant, another connects with the ceiling of RBC and directs to the exterior.
