I believe that in order for students to be engaged in an activity, it needs to be filled with enjoyment, that is, students need to have fun. Students at any age are more likely to not only continue with activities they have already tried, but will actively test out new ones, and continue with this lifestyle once they move on from the school system. I believe this is done through developmentally appropriate activities that operate on the basis of optimal challenge. If each student is individually challenged to their abilities, and are provided with activities that make it easier or more difficult, their enjoyment will increase, and teachers will see a corresponding boost in their active engagement. I believe the overall goal for any Physical Education class is to create an atmosphere where students want to be active beyond school, and will hopefully strive to be active for life, and that enjoyment creates a strong foundation for students to succeed.
