I enjoy teaching at all levels and in a number of fields, but especially in Renaissance poetry. My teaching style is conservative: I prefer to lecture, although I’m always happy to hear what students have to say; I keep the use of the computer to an absolute minimum; and I never assign group work, as I resented it deeply when I was a student.

Here’s my teaching for the academic year beginning in September 2021. In the first term I’ll teach English 100 (Reading and Writing About Literature) and English 491, an honours seminar on the sonnet. In the second term I’ll teach English 225 (Poetry) and English 350 (Milton).
