Site Visit

Skagit Consulting travelled to the Sowerby Woodlot (W2111) on Friday, January 30th. Ryan Turner from Chartwell Consultants Ltd. kindly toured us through the woodlot discussing the management objectives and challenges with regards to the licence. For the most part, we saw what we expected to see: the stand types in our data matched well with what we saw in the field, visibility of the woodlot from the Silver Lake Recreation Site was slim to none, operability was questionable where we figured it was, etc. The mainline through the woodlot was in a lot worse shape than we expected with major washouts (which will require resurfacing) and deep snow in a number of spots. Our access to the far portion of the woodlot was further restricted by harvesting equipment in the woodlot.

Overall, the trip was a success. Ryan has a wealth of knowledge and provided insight into potential implications for managing for Chartwell’s specific objectives. I’ve attached a brief powerpoint with more details and photos below.
