From Googleplex to Zappoplex
In our recent lecture, Ms. Danielle came in to discuss about the concept of organizational culture and human resources management. We mainly focused on a company called Zappos. During our discussion on the company Zappos, we watched a brief video about it and the company office reminded me a lot of Google. I read James Lau’s blog and it highlighted on Google’s organizational culture, and touched upon many similar discussions that were brought up in class.
I believe that the key to having a successful active employee is to have an incredible organizational culture. There is no doubt that Google has maintained an amazing office-vibe that always gets its employee to come in with a smile. The benefits of having an organizational culture are that it helps build a closer relationship amongst fellow office colleagues. As people in the office have closer relationships they are obliged to be united more as a family and not just feel that they are in an boring office constantly doing work. Similarly to Google, Zappos has maintained a healthy and fun environment for its employees. Both companies provide lots of benefits and although they may seem more costly, I agree with James that it will be more beneficial as it will build a healthier environment that will develop a lower turnover rate and of course more reliable workers.
