Our Services

As Kinesiologists and Personal Trainers, we will custom design a physical activity, fitness, and lifestyle plan to strengthen personal weaknesses and work with you to reach challenging, yet realistic goals.  We will design and lead private exercise sessions using various modes of exercise and exercise equipment.  Also, we will record and monitor every client’s exercise program in order to facilitate safe and effective progression.  Our aim is to promote an active, healthy lifestyle for aging individuals using  specific exercises that target the improvement of strength, endurance, balance and flexibility.

Strength training is extremely important for older individuals because as we age, our bones and muscles gradually decrease in mass.  A reduction in bone mass increases the risk of osteoporosis, and reduced muscle mass decreases the strength and speed of our movements.  Active Living’s regular strength training program incorporates  the use of body weight, resistance bands, and light weights to lessen the effects of aging by strengthening bones and muscles.  We always teach clients the proper form and technique of exercises to prevent injury. 

Endurance training promotes cardiovascular health by improving the efficiency of the heart and blood circulation to the working muscles.  Endurance exercises also improve the strength of joints and promote mental alertness.  Active Living uses a variety of endurance exercises, such as walking, jogging, and cycling to reach optimal functioning of the heart.

Balance plays a critical role in the prevention of injury.  Balance is extremely important for older individuals because as we age, individuals are more susceptible to injury caused by falls and it becomes more and more difficult to make a full recovery.  Our training programs will incorporate exercises to improve balance and reduce the risk of injury. 

Flexibility and stretching of the muscles provides many benefits to improve health.  These benefits include the improvement of physical ability, movement through a greater range of motion, the decrease in the risk of injury, reduction of muscle soreness, improvement of posture, and the increase of blood supply and nutrients to the working muscles.  Active Living promotes stretching before and after exercise for the reasons listed above, to relax the mind and body, and bring a sense of self-gratification of exercise.
