  1. Dear Steve, Shaun, and Jim,

Your unit plan is very well-organized and easy and accessible. The number of lessons spent on each topic seems appropriate for the unit and grade level.

We think it would be beneficial if you included potential activities and videos to teach the content and make it engaging for all students. Having a list of key concept questions to ask students as well as some ideas for assessment for, as and of learning would be helpful!

    Thanks for your hardwork!

  2. Stars: Very detailed and well outlined the curricular competencies and content knowledge.
Many different activities are planned for the unit. Relating the unit to global context.
Wish: Should include some summative assessments such as quizzes + tests. Are students going to be able to work on project in classes (include in lesson progression in unit plan).

  3. Julia,Laura and Kristen on Unit plan from Steve, Jim and Shaun:

Your unit plan is thorough and includes all the elements of a well thought unit. You have a variety of options that include all the learning types. In the future maybe include some cross-curricular activities.

  4. Very detailed unit plan. Bamfield would make a great field trip for this unit. Detailed SWBATS for what will count as evidence, keeps one focused on what needs to be covered. Starting off on a nature walk connects the content to the local environment and place-based learning. Question: what would you do if students can’t afford or go on the Bamfield trip? Do you have another summative assessment you could give them? Also, you have a lot of guiding questions, seems like one per lesson, but can you think of a overarching theme question that brings all the lessons together?
Thanks for this resource – it will be VERY helpful!

  5. Your unit plan is well-organized and thorough, which allow other teachers to use it without difficulty. We especially liked the guiding questions outlined in the unit plan – these are not only great questions to ask the students (to get them to think critically about the topic), but also provide a framework for teachers to consider when teaching the unit.

    Thanks!
