The article, “Are sustainability reports driving change or just ‘losing the signal’?” by Tim Mohin, reports and interesting idea of combining sustainability with competition in order to establish an ethical corporate world. Although, it may turn out to be costly for a firms, the long term effects of creating an atmosphere of sustainability are in the benefits of maximum stakeholders.

The article suggests that it is possible to create a sustainable environment by forcing firms to be more transparent in releasing information of their consumption of resources and the impact of their carbon footprint. Since investors and consumers are equally being aware and concerned of the long-term effects caused by our decision today, the fact of transparency would improve their corporate image. If there are many firms that have adopted policy, other firms may be forced to follow the trend and further work decreasing their pollution, creating an healthy environment for everyone.

To summarise it all we can say that the idea of having firms incur short-term costs to improve sustainability, for a better long-term living standard and higher consumer power would help enhance and boost the economy ethically.
